Always remember that the Writing Centre is the safe home for all students interested in the art of writing. It opens its arms wide for anyone, regardless of age, sex, specialization, etc.

Philosophy
Writing is a very important skill. It is fundamental to all forms of learning. It helps us to learn deeply and think clearly. Writing also enables us to join human conversation with confidence. A writing centre is necessary for students and consultants to discuss the nature and presentation of ideas. Through the writing centre we can provide support to students of all disciplines and abilities. All students, regardless of their abilities, can benefit from informed feedback on their work given by experienced teachers acting as consultants.
In our writing centre we aim at working hard enough, adopting modern educational techniques, to produce skilful and successful writers. Beginners need to receive proper assistance in order to achieve better levels to become good writers. In addressing writing, we will not edit students’ papers, we will focus on patterns of errors and try to help students identify their errors and do self-correction. The philosophy of the writing centre is based on producing better writers, not just better writing.
Mission
The writing centre belongs to the English Department whose mission is based on playing a three-fold role: extending our service to encompass
1. Our students, 2. Our consultants and 3. Our local community.
Students:
· Developing strong ties between students and their teachers based on mutual respect.
· Promoting learning and critical thinking by helping students focus on the issues present in their writing and by involving them in reflection on their own work.
· Helping students gain confidence, articulate ideas, acquire strategies, and learn the skills to engage effectively in their writing processes.
· Encourage students who have developed more advanced writing skills to explore the world of rhetoric by being exposed to different methods of discourse analysis and stylistic studies.
· Exposing students to methods of documenting and citing.
Consultants:
The writing centre supports staff growth by encouraging a theoretical understanding of writing through being engaged in workshops, presentations and conferences.
Local Community:
We intend to go beyond conventional boundaries by involving eminent figures within College as well as outside College community, representing different disciplines, in talks, seminars, and conferences. Thus we can enrich students’ knowledge and widen their experience.
Writing Centre Staff:
The Head of the Department of English, Dr. Ali Bayoumi, is also the Director of the Centre. As a start, we have two teachers: Mr. Younes Audeh and Ms. Umama Al-Kalbaniaa. Later, when activities take shape, a more elaborate description of the writing centre Board will be prepared.
